You can swap the wheel and have the controls working, once enabled the board computer works with or without the factory radio
Hi lads
reading thought this site I've now got too many ideas ......... so firstly thanks - what was just going to be a run about is slowly turning into a full blown project thanks to seeing what you lads are doing to your cars.
Im very lucky to have access to a tech 2 via my father in law (he a saab specialist and has the vaus=x software on his tech 2)
so I've got a few issues firstly..
my indicators don't correct
checking the fault codes it says "replace cim module" and "steering angle needs calibrating" . when i try to re calibrate the steering angle it says wrong secrety code though.
also my bc button does nothing .
I've read that you can buy a 3 line display and fit that then activate the bc and it should work is that right ? do i need to program the display to the stereo ? also if i change the stereo (being a car audio installer this is bound to happen) will i loose the onboard comp? ( once its programmed)
the van was a builders van so the steering wheel is crap , I've won a second hand one with controls and I've read that these can be activated ... how easy is that and will they work with the onboard computer if i get that working ?
i realise this is a lot and thanks in advance for your help guys

i thought it sounded about right but I've never that lucky to find a simple fix...
cant wait to get rid if the crap wheel and get some steering wheel controls working.
Been looking at bid screens ... am i right in saying its worth buying one thats been divorced ? because if i don't and i want to change anything you cant cos its locked to another car ?
Got my new wheel today and got the controls programmed no prob ..
So tried to program the steering angle again and couldn't do it . As you said I took the battery off for a few mins and made sure the scrim was central . Put the battery back on and hey presto it let me re cal . But it just wouldn't re cal , looking at the readings while you turn the wheel I'd does nothing at all so think it could be buggered .
Talking to my father in law he asked if there similar to the Saab ones as they take them apart and change just the sensor so you don't have to reprogram it .
so a little update and a couple more questions really
The cim was infact faulty , peck you were right . after taking the battery off for 5 mins i could then access the cim but still couldn't program the angle . I bought a reset unit of fleebay , programmed it up and the vans sweet now. thats that issue sorted .
done a few things like debadging it and changing the silver headlights to black one and its getting there now .
I bought a 3 line display as i only had a 2 line that was supposedly reset. but as you can in=magine when i plug it in the screen says safe . It didn't worry me as i have now fitted a aftermarket stereo but after a day of having it fitted the steer wheel controls stopped working and the screen clearly reads the tank wrong as it says theres 0 mile when i have 1/4 tank left.
So i need to get into the programming of the screen , is this me being a idiot and need to switch on the security and programming my code into it or do you the k i have actually bought a married screen ?
if i have , i seem to think i read somewhere i can unsolder my 2 line eprom and solder that into the 3 line to make it work with my code and settings is that right ? as i a little handy with a soldering iron
thanks agin
Best not to do it
Get dump out of it and decode
Than program according your specs
How do I get a dump out of it ?
Desoldering eeprom and reading it with eeprom programmer
Than post bin file here and you will get code for it
